Achilles Tendinitis Pain from Pickleball - Physical Therapy Rehab Guide
In this video, Phil the physical therapist talks about achilles tendinopathy which is more commonly known as tendinitis. It is due to inflammation of the tendon caused usually by overloading of the tissue.
A lot rehab is about monitoring the loads so that you are not constantly aggravating the injury.
Tendon rehab is all about strengthening the tendon. The stronger your tendon is the more loads it will be able to handle.
Specifically with tendon rehab, some pain is okay. Pain does NOT equal to damage.
This is a stubborn diagnosis and can take a while for it to get better.
Trust the process and slowly progress the rehab exercises.

    Im currently in PTA school and i was a chronic pain suffer for 6 years. A physical therapist suggested a book about neuroplasticity to read. I did and at first I thought it was kind of silly but once i ran out of options for pain solutions i returned to it and went down the rabbit hole of mind body pain. Today I have reduced my pain by about 85% just by researching pain neuroscience education and reading some books about how to treat this kind of pain. It has truly saved my life. My question is how frequently do you see patients that could have pain without a structural root cause? And does physical therapy still have a place in treating these patients like me? I think a lot of chronic pain sufferers experience what i did and will never know it. I want to know what can be done about these patients in physical therapy

    • @PhilipHsu
      @PhilipHsu 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for your message. Yes these patients are more common than we think. Can’t put a specific number on it but generally it depends on the patients history. Yes physical therapy’s role is to build up resilience, strength and to reassure that pain does not equal to damage.

      @@PhilipHsu thank you! I have been having some inner conflict about my career path as i didnt truly understand the role PTs played in treating chronic pain thats not caused by structural damage. For me when i do mobility training i switched my mindset from “i have to fix this structural problem” to teaching myself that im not fragile and that movement is safe. For me fear was the fuel for my pain and taking an empowerment approach has really helped. So i will try to incorporate that into my work. I just know a lot of people dont believe in this concept and will try literally everything else before giving this a chance (myself included). Also working for someone that doesnt believe in this kind of chronic pain doesnt sound fun. Im glad it is becoming more accepted amongst physical therapists these days. Thank you so much for answering my question it really helped me with my internal conflict that was driving me nuts.

    Is it possible to ask this question here... Which job is more stable and more secure for let's say... 15 years. Will working in-patient PT be more stable? or is out-patient PT better? When your video description stated that being out-patient is more "laid back" of a job, I felt concerned the possibility that this environment is less secure because being laid back means... you're not getting enough customers. Less customers, less income... but surely, this can be an issue for in-patient rehabs as well. With today's economic climate, which PT setting is more likely to shut down?

    • @PhilipHsu
      @PhilipHsu Рік тому

      Neither will shut down. Job security is the good part about working in healthcare. I would say actually outpatient is less laid back and more stressful because of productivity demands and patient mills (seeing 3-4 patients an hour). Hospitals will not shut down, even in recessions, so I would say inpatient is more "stable"

    Evidence-based physical therapy requires evidence-based marketing! I just stumbled across your channel. As a company that markets more than 750 clinics worldwide (hmdg), we come across this all the time! And often get asked to market some very strange things which, as we're ethical, we never do. Also, you should check out Aaron Kubal if you haven't already.

    Totally stepping out from the mechanical approach in manual therapy is still nonsense. MT is used for desensitization of the nervous system, pain habituation, etc. I agree on that, But I can't believe nothing is happening in those tissues, especially if you do a manipulation in III AND IV Maitland's degree for roughly 6-7 minutes two times, as Maitland's MT approach does.

    It is one of the downfalls of capitalism. We are on the extreme end where everything is sacrificed for profit. There's definitely a fair profit to quality ratio, but nobody is really incentivized to find that balance. There are a few conscientious practitioners who are able to turn down the money. However, there are many surrounding forces by systems they are reliant on that price-gouge them and force them to adjust their profit:quality in order to survive. There are doctors who don't work with insurance and provide affordable care, but I heard that path is very hard. We need to create systems to support those types of practices.

    • @PhilipHsu
      @PhilipHsu 2 роки тому

      Yes. Unfortunately, people are forced by the system to do things a certain way.
